My friend, Lindsay Wilkes from The Cottage Mama, recently released a new fabric line called Mae Flowers, and the team at Penny Rose Fabrics asked me if I could sew something to share with you.Of course I could! The jewel tones and abundant florals make this fabric line the perfect choice for my 6-year-old granddaughter, Katie. I think she’ll love the little girls frolicking under umbrellas in the pouring rain! They seem so full of carefree joy!
Katie just started ballet classes, and she needed something to carry her shoes, tights, extra clothes, etc. I searched Pinterest for some ideas and came up with a plan for combining a drawstring bag with a tote bag … it’s similar to the Bento bags that are out there, but on a bigger scale. I combined two of my own patterns, but you could make something very similar by simply enlarging a tutorial for a smaller bag.
With the drawstring opening at the top, it’s simple to open and fill.
Then, pull it tight and everything’s safely enclosed.
The tote bag bottom gives the bag a good amount of structure, and the shoulder straps make it easy to grab and carry along … to dance class, or a sleepover, or anywhere that Katie is off to!
